About Mobility

Mobility is Switzerland’s leading car-sharing cooperative. With a fleet of over 3,000 vehicles located across 1,600 sites, Mobility provides a flexible, affordable and sustainable transportation solution. On average, one Mobility car replaces 18 private vehicles, actively reducing traffic and environmental impact. In Zurich, a single Mobility car replaces as many as 21 private vehicles.

Mobility caters for occasional drivers without their own cars, as well as people who need a suitable vehicle for specific occasions, ranging from moving vans to small cars for driving lessons.

Secure driver's licence verification around the clock

As a car-sharing provider, Mobility is legally required to ensure that only individuals with a valid driving licence have access to its vehicles. For many years, this process was handled manually, which was time-consuming and only available during office hours, Monday to Saturday.

Furthermore, the manual process offered no reliable way to confirm identities, which occasionally resulted in fraudulent registrations. For a modern, fully digital business model, this was too slow, error-prone and inflexible.

To modernise the registration process, Mobility partnered with PXL Vision in 2020. Using PXL Ident, customers can upload their driving licence directly to the Mobility app at any time. Driving licences and identities are now verified in real time, eliminating customer waiting times. This process is strengthened by face verification and a liveness check, ensuring that the document belongs to the person submitting it.

The result: Around 80 per cent of all verifications are now fully automated and take just a few minutes to complete. Only foreign driving licences are still checked manually for security reasons. This has made access to vehicles much faster and more convenient for customers.

Greater security, less effort and a better customer experience

The introduction of automated identity verification has brought lasting change to Mobility's processes. For customers, this means quick and easy access to the entire fleet. For the company, it has resulted in significantly greater efficiency: time spent on customer service has almost halved for the registration process, while security has increased considerably.

Since PXL Ident was implemented, not a single user has been able to register using someone else's data. The costs previously incurred by fraudulent registrations have also been eliminated entirely.

Why choose PXL Vision?

The decisive factor was the convincing overall package. The solution could easily be integrated into the existing Mobility app and tailored to its specific requirements. Close cooperation was also particularly valuable. PXL Vision had not yet supported any driving licence examinations, but was willing to expand its document portfolio to include this new document type and adapt PXL Ident to the requirements of driving licence check. Other providers were unable to convince us on this point. The price-performance ratio was also favourable, for both implementation and ongoing operation.
