Address Check
Verify your customers' identity and proof of address in a single onboarding process – digitally, audit-proof, and without adding extra workload for your team.
BENEFITS Enhanced security and compliance through integrated address check
One process instead of two
Address and identity verification take place simultaneously. Your customers complete a single flow, with no postal mail and no channel disruption.
Verified address instead of just a declared one
FINMA-compliant online identification
The address check feature implements the residential address verification required by FINMA Circular 2016/7 directly within the digital onboarding process, supporting you with your KYC and AML obligations.
REGULATION Why Proof of Address is mandatory for online identification
According to the revised FINMA Circular 2016/7 'Video and Online Identification', anyone identifying customers online must verify their residential address in addition to their identity. The reason: an identity document does not prove where a person lives – Swiss ID cards and passports do not contain a residential address. The future Swiss E-ID will not cover this either, which is why a Proof of Address will still be required when verifying via E-ID.
The circular specifies the following forms of proof for this purpose:
- a public register or a trustworthy private database
- a tax bill, official invoice, or utility bill (e.g. electricity, water, or telephone)
- a postal delivery
What this means for you
- Legal certainty: You are using a method explicitly specified in the circular.
- Speed: No waiting for postal delivery – the address is verified directly during onboarding.
- Traceability: Proof of address is documented in an audit-proof manner and readily available for audits.
PROCESS
How real-time address check works
Start verification
Your customers begin onboarding via a deep link or QR code – either in a web browser or within your app.
Scan ID document
The ID document is captured using the smartphone camera and automatically checked for authenticity.
Record a video selfie
A short video selfie with passive liveness detection confirms that the person is present and matches the ID document.
Capture and verify address
The address can be entered during the flow or provided to us in advance via the API. To optimise conversion rates, we recommend submitting the address via the API. The address is then cross-checked against the Swiss Post database and verified.
Verification complete
END-TO-END Seamless integration of address validation into identity verification
PXL Vision integrates address validation directly into its identity verification solutions when required by customers or specific use cases. Rather than treating it as a separate step, we combine it seamlessly with automated or manual document verification to create a holistic, end-to-end verification process.
This means that when new users register, their identity documents and biometric data are checked while their address is simultaneously validated and verified. PXL Vision therefore covers both stages of the Proof of Address process.

Frequently asked questions about address check
Address check verifies whether the provided address is actually a person’s place of residence. It complements identity verification, as Swiss ID cards and passports do not contain a residential address.
FINMA Circular 2016/7 requires the residential address to be verified during online identification (mn. 34–37). The specific requirements that apply in individual cases depend on your supervisory authority or self-regulatory organisation (SRO).
According to FINMA Circular 2016/7, these include electricity, water, or telephone bills, as well as tax or official invoices. With the 'Address Verification' module, your customers capture such a bill directly during onboarding.
Generally not. Address validation runs in parallel with document and biometric verification based on the address data transmitted to us via API. Customers only photograph a bill additionally when using the add-on module.
Yes. Address check is an add-on for PXL Ident and can be activated depending on the use case. It is already included in our PXL GwG Ident solution.
